Different kind of foods can make a coat stronger but this is shedding season. For now I just suggest keeping him outdoors a little more until it goes away. Or getting covers for your furniture and vaccuming more.

Regular brushing to remove dead hair will help tremendously. Also, some breeds shed more than others. Make sure you're feeding a good quality dog food, and the dog's skin and coat is kept in good condition with the addition of vegetable oil to his food or a salmon oil capsule daily. But dogs shed, nothing you can do to stop it, only control it.

Shedding all depends on the dog. A few things that can help are:

a. a high quality food (check out a pet supplies store, they carry much better food than the grocery chains). It will be more expensive but it is worth it. There are a lot of benefits besides reducing shedding. Ask at the store. (I love Nutro foods, but there are a lot of good ones).

b. daily brushing

You can't stop it, unfortunately. However, you can control it by keeping your dog bathed and brushed. I have two Golden Retrievers who shed all year. It helps reduce the shedding when I brush them before letting them back into the house. You might also limit your pet's space to one or two rooms in the house so that the clean-up is minimal. Bathe the dog weekly, it releases dead coat. Brush daily and feed a good quality food like Nutro Ultra.

All dogs will shed but lack of nutrients can cause excessive shedding. I had the same problem until I found the right food. I had my dogs on the top of the line foods but I guess they were not good enough. I ended up switching to Royal Canin's breed specific food and reduced the problem to nothing. My dogs coats look great and they both have increased energy. There are supplements with the Omega 3s and soy but they did not work as well as finding the right mixture of food.
