My pug has developed an area the size of a quarter that has no hair on it. Any ideas what it is?

My pug started scratching an area and now has no hair on it. It appears to no longer bother him but the hair hasn't grown back.

could be mange, fleas, or allergic reaction. dog needs to go to vet or it will only get worse.

You will want to take your dog in to the vet for a scraping. It could be ringworm, or mange, or just an allergy. Better safe than sorry.

It could be several things some like ringworm you could contract yourself. i would take your dog to the vet right away for a scraping and diagnosis.

my dog had the exact same thing..... dont worry its a allergic reaction to fleas...... go to your recomended vet and ask for a medicine for it. like i said dont freak out. it wont spread through his body and make him a hair less dog................

good luck

It could be many things. Take him/her to the vet, the vet is the only one that can say for sure.

my 7 month old male pug just started doing this about two weeks ago. I took him to the vet about 5 days after he started messing with it, and the hair was thinning, they did a skin scrape and it was demodex mange. If you get it early, then they can just give you a cream to put on it and that should take care of it. If you wait too long, it can take over and it can get so bad that he could even lose all his hair (my rescue pug had this happen before I got her - completely hairless for months because BYB refused to treat her mange then dropped her off at a shelter).

So take care of it as soon as you can. Insist that they do a skin scrape to check for mange. It may be something else, but it sounds very similar to what I had happen. Good luck!
